Whenever I take down my RI compact Break down is easy but it is a bear to get the guide rod/recoil spring back in. Is there a trick I don't know?

flcatainbill,

I don't not have much trouble with the rod/recoil spring --

I put the barrel in the slide first.

I put the reverse bushing in the slide.

Then the spring.

I lift the spring up a bit and then install the guide rod.

I push the spring/guide rod in and engage the back of the guide rod on the barrel lug support.

I hope this helps.

What I have the most trouble with is getting the slide stop in back into to the slide with the recoil spring pressure pushing back on the slide while I am trying to line up the slide stop.

I hope this helped.

I have found that if you hold the pistol pointing down and push the slide back slightly everything lines up well for the slide stop to go in easily.

Thanks I will give it a try when I get back into to town and fire a couple hundred more rounds next week and then clean my CS.

Are you leaving in the pin used to capture the guide rod? I always do and remove it as a unit. I put it back in the same way.

As KSmedman said, use the disasembly pin...
My Compact didn't come with a disasembly pin. I use a small allen wrench through the guide rod hole. Compressing the spring in the reverse bushing.

hadn't thought about an allen wrench. I've been using a uncoiled paper clip. I'm gonna give the allen wrench a try. Hopefully it'll be a little more stable.

Use the one handed method, as described here:http://www.topglock.com/content.aspx?Ckey=fieldstrip

You only need to read Steps 1-3. The only difference is that you have to push the slide back further.

I used the paper clip once, that was one too many.

I use a super duty paper clip for disasseembly. If you haven't read it there is a sticky about this topic that gives lots of useful tips.
