Hi all, new guy here but a long time home builder that is getting ready to try a home build 1911. A buddy of mine has some frames and we noticed that one is about a 1/4 inch shorter in the grip area than the other and we are trying to figure out if this is possible due to one being a full size GI frame and the other a commander frame or if maybe on is horribly out of spec?

The one that comes out short looks like it will hit on the slide when a full sized mag is inserted.

I apologizes if this sounds like a silly question but I just can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere on the grip area sizes. The rest of the frame looks identical but the grip itself is roughly 1/4 shorter.

Any ideas or input would be greatly apreaciated.

TbcSEOD, welcome to the forum!!! :wc: :)

Hawkmoon has answered your question but I will post a picture of a Longslide (6" barrel), a standard GI Model (5" barrel), a Mid Size (4" barrel) and a Compact (3.5" barrel) The Longslide, GI Model and Mid Size all utilize the same frame but the Compact has the smaller frame.

Many thanks - It sounds to me like he has a few full size and a few compacts then. Might have to try and pick up one of each :)
