View Full Version : Jammed Kimber

I was at the range this evening getting ready to try some reloads in my new Kimber Custom II. Previously it had peformed flawlessly with factory ammo as well as my LSWC reloads. Tonight I tried a LRN reload and it jammed on the initial feeding. I now can't get it unjammed.

The hammer is cocked but the cartridge is in just enough that it can't fire nor can I manually move the slide to eject the round.

Also, I can't remove the bushiing as the slide rod is extended just enough that I can't move that either....not to mention looking into the bore of a loaded weapon.

Any thoughts???

Yes, the round is stuck in the chamber, oh, you knew that. If you're right handed, and if not, do the opposite, grasp the slide with the left hand thumb pointing to the rear and smack the grip with the right hand like you're trying to snatch it out of the left. Here's a picture.

I had the same thing happen recently with a sloppy reload. Unknowlingly a sliver of lead bullet was wiped down the side of the brass case during seating effectively soldering the round into the chamber. Clearing was a little easier with my pistol as it was a conventional g.i. guide rod and plug. Clearing involved pushing real hard on the slide below the barrel. It doesn't have to move very far to clear.

I'm not familiar with the Kimber configuration, but believe you could do the same thing if whatever you were pushing against had a place for the end of FLGR to go, like a hole slightly larger than the guide rod. The barrel has to be free to move independently of the slide. For peace of mind, tape the hammer back. Just push real hard--it only has to move a fraction of an inch. You'll probably have to use both hands. I did.

Had that happen to me on my home-built.The link pin had broken and jammed everything up.Started out by punching out the msh pin(under a lot of pressure)and taking it apart kinda backwards.Told the wife to not be alarmed by any loud noises in the garage.Thankfully, everything worked out; but it was kinda touch&go for a while.

Problem Solved ! Based on responses here and several other forums, plus a little serendipity....I got it unjammed.

I ended up holding the slide in my weak hand and hitting the grip a number of times with my strong hand. It seemed to loosen things a bit. Here's where the serendipity (or maybe my Guardian Angel) came into play. On continuing to hit the grip harder, I managed to drop the gun on the floor. Luckily it didn't go off (read above about Guardian Angels) and I was able to clear the jam.

Thanks for your help guys....I'm sure I'll be back for more as 1911's seem a tad persnickety to me. :)
