What is trigger boosting? What does it do? and how do you do it?

Boosting a trigger is dry firing the assembled gun with an additional external force applied to the hammer. Ken Hallock (in his "Hallock's .45 Auto Handbook") mentions it as a possible (?) final step in doing a trigger job to smoothe out variations in trigger pull and eliminate creep - or at least some of it.
