The grip screw on my Springfield Armory is pretty tight and I can't seem to remove it. Anyone with suggestion on what I can use or do to loosen it. I don't want to damage my wood grips in the process. I've already tried liquid wrench and so far it was a no go.

During grip install a drop of threadlock may have been placed on your grip screws. One trick you may try is to take a low wattage soldering gun or iron and hold the tip on the screw head for about 30 seconds just enough to heat the screw a little and soften the threadlock. If there is threadlock on the screw the heat will soften it and the screw should then turn out.
Best,
Don

Are you asking about an original military M1911 manufactured at the original Springfield Armory in Massachusetts, or are you asking about a modern, commercial 1911 manufactured by the company in Geneseo, Illinois?

Dan,
I'm not sure if any threadlock was used, but I'll give it a shot a this point. Thanks.

Hawkmoon,
It is an original military issue M1911 from Massachusetts. It is the reason why I posted in the U.S. Military Issue to get feedback from other members who may have had a similar situation as I am in. I want to make sure I don't cause any damage as I plan to clean and lube to preserve it. Right now, neither the grip screw or bushing is budging. The other three, all the bushings unscrewed but the grip is sandwiched in between.

If you haven't already done so, try applying the Liquid Wrench from the magazine well side of the screw. Contact between the screw head and grip wood may prevent it from getting to the threads if you tried it from the outside. A few light (real light) taps on a pin punch in the center of the screw slot might help too.

niemi,
I've already tried and it has been REALLY STUBBORN. I guess repeat application and tapping over time and see what happens. Thank you.

Get some KROIL from a industrial supply. This is the best penetrant on the market. It will get into a crevice 50 millionths of a inch. Let it soak in to the threads and re apply a few times. Follow with niemi24s instructions. Good luck.
