I will do my best to describe this as I have not yet grasp the "insert pics thing" yet.
Shot 100 rnds through my new to me used Nork. Observations on cases as follows.
1. The top to the barrel has a "hood" at the chamber end, that is the area of the case that is darkened. The rest is clean. Blow by?
2. In the darkened area there is a horizontal mark (more of a cut) that is about half way up the case. Which would line up with the center of the "hood" where it has a small rough spot. Can I smooth it out with something? Was this spot created by the case mouth hitting it?
3. And last. There is a small mark/gouge in the base where the ejector head would hit if the slid was fully closed. Not to worry?
This is occurring in all the brass I recovered and only asking because I want to start reloading and for the functionality of the gun. No malfunctions in it yet.
Hope I painted a good picture.

Your descriptions are about as good as they can get without any pictures, but one thing needs to ascertained: how did you determine the rotational orientation of the case in the chamber?
In other words, you said the case had a dark area corresponding to the barrel hood - how do you know that dark area wasn't on the bottom of the case?

The dark spot on the case is the same shape and size as the hood. With it chambered as such, the mark on the bottom of the case I mentioned, lines up with the ejector. Now I think it was you or Tuner I read somthing about the claw hitting the bottom of the case and breaking off. Is that correct?

just a quickie - the forward mark is likely coming from the hood of the slide, as you point down-range, the ejector is on the left, the extractor on the right. If the mark is on the right, dressing the extractor might be in order.

The ejector mark on the case head is a reliable way of determining the case's orientation in the chamber (unless the case has been reloaded lots of times and is all cluttered up with ejector lmarks). And there's no reason to be concerned about the ejector marks. It'll get a new one upon each firing and they're a handy way to tell how many times a case has been loaded & fired.
But, don't know what to make of the dark mark itself or why it's just in the area covered by the hood. I use Bullseye powder and my empty cases are filthy all over! Now I think it was you or Tuner I read somthing about the claw hitting the bottom of the case and breaking off. Is that correct? While many folks have mentioned this, the only mark the extractor usually leaves on the case is on the beveled portion of the extraction groove. Some folks even file down the extractor nose so it can't contact the bevel. An Ordnance spec extractor nose will contact the case bevel. My wadcutter 1911 makes contact too, but it's had the same extractor since about 1964 and seen a lot of shooting - so I don't sweat it. JMB designed it that way.
Best way to smooth out the rough spot is with a piece of 400 or 600 grit wet-or-dry silicon carbide paper wrapped around a round wood dowel.

Hi:
My brass all seems "sootier" on one side too; and it occurs with five different 1911's. That tells me it's nothing to worry about.
Take care,

Thanks guys. Took my barrel to work today and tried to buff out the rough spot on the hood and will test tomarrow. Happy days.
