...I don't know what type of sight I should paint on? My sights are still all black since my gun is like 2 weeks old (to me at least). I would like input as to what style is preferred. I was considering 3 dot design with orange front sight and green rear dots. I was also considering a green front sight and a green line at the bottom of the notch on the rear sight. My third option is a U-shaped outline for the rear and a different color (orange most likely) front sight.

Any tips on application, colors etc would be greatly appreciated.

With fiber optics the green is by far the most detectable by all who try it in spite of red seeming right. That said and prior to my love of fiber optics, I found only red/ orange florescent paint acceptable the green I could find and experiment with just didn't get it. So red was good and the rear was best left blank, sight picture is a clean simple red dot framed on three sides on the POA.
I was at using a 3/32" carbide ball burr in my Foredom and cutting a dot into the face of the front sight and filling it with the red paint. And could be also done with a Dremel as well. Here's a few that have been replaced with fiber optics.

Fluorescent yellow paint works well for me on my Springfield Mil-Spec with the 3-dot sights.

My front sights are pretty much what log man does except I don't grind the dot. I just paint the whole ramp like the old S&W sights. A little day-glo red works just fine. Rear sight is left plain black. It helps draw my eye to the front that way.

I like green on the front, a la Garrett, otherwise. I think it is pretty individual, what color you see best.

Here's an option, instead of paint!

I ordered the Dot and Strip Set this morning, after I found it on another forum. I will post a review when it arrives.

I use Testors florescent orange on the front and leave the back black ... works well for me, ymmv.
