View Full Version : Refinish Cost Guestimate?

I have a nickle plated Colt that I am considering having refinished in hard chrome. About how much can I expect to spend to have the nickle stripped, and then hard chromed?

Also, If I were to make this my first build and attempt to fit all the usual Wilson small parts myself, should the fitting be done before having it stripped and re plated, or between being stripped and plated? I am assuming that having a piece hard chromed is the last step....

I would really like to build my first 1911, and I have a decent Combat Commander with a tarnished nickel finish just chillin' in the safe... any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Travis

I believe you can go to Colts website, www.coltsmfg.com, click on their Custom Shop icon and a price sheet will pop up which includes various refinishing options. I think Springfield offers the same service and displays the prices on their website and SA is happy to work on Colts. I had considered the same process for my nickle Combat Commander, but elected to have the nickle "rejuvenated" for $70 rather than replated with e-nickle or chrome for $200.

Regarding the "order of battle" suggest you talk to Colt on that.

I can't find that. It is the sort of thing that they should have but don't.
