After a failed attempt to get fingerprints today for my carry license application I fought the blues off by stopping by a local gunsmith and asked if he could or would be willing to mill my Hi Cap slide for low mount Novak sights.

He said sure no problem and it would cost $250 for both the front and rear dovetails. I said great and then he said that would also include the sights either Trijicon or Meprolight. I just about fainted

The only problem is that he is booked until July of this year. Once in the turn-around would be 30 days.

So a couple of questions:

1. Do you think that, as I do, this is a good price?

2. Should I go a head with this?

For me the timing is not problem as it is something that I am just thinking about and not ready to jump into as I want to buy a FS Tac. If I do purchase a FS Tac then my windfall funds are just about exhausted :( , so saving up for this mod will be needed.

All opinions are welcome -- your comments?

Novak will cut the dovetails and install the sights. I would trust them to do it right more than a gunsmith - they do it more often and have their reputation to uphold.

Thanks Harley nut,

Looks like the cost of Novak's direct is not much more than the local gunsmith. This shipping both ways would be the push. And I missed the fact that Novak states that they would refinish the gun if necessary.

But you are right I would have confidence in Novak doing it right.

By the way :wc: to the forum.

Mike, you can also check with Ivan and Arnel at Armscor in Nevada to see what they will charge to install a set for you!! :) :)

You know Auto Mag that is a good idea, thanks. :appld:

I wish I would have thought of that yesterday. :butthead:

What would be nice if I could purchase a FS Tac slide with sights, full guide rod, and reverse bushing, then I would have a true Rock Hi Cap Tactical. :D

Auto Mag,

I sent Ivan an e-mail just before getting Big Momma (my Hi Cap) and he said that he did not think that they had any, but now that I know that I can call Arnel (who sold me my beavertail, hammer, and trigger) I am going to call him and ask if they have the parts. If they do not have the parts I will ask if I could order them.

On Advanced Tachtical web site they show that they do sell the slide and other parts for a conversion. But it really does not say if the parts are tactical parts. I will give Arnel a call next week from the road.

Thank you very much Ken.

The Bayou City is Houston, Texas. Not far from Louisiana, only 100 miles or so.

Houston is know by a number of different nicknames but the oldest (I think) is The Bayou City as the city was founded on the banks of Buffalo Bayou. Actual I believe that the founders filled in part of Buffalo Bayou and established the city there. That filled in land is now downtown Houston and even today when ever we have a tropical storm or hurricane downtown almost always floods.

What City is Clarks Custom in?

When I opened the link the web page was one of those that show the orginal page has expired.
