Quick question: Is the sear spring in a compact/officers size frame the same as that in a full size frame? Parts catalogs do not seem to differentiate between the two. Thanks all.

Probably your best guide for parts interchangeability is the Colt section in Factory Parts in the Brownells catalog. It's got 1911 Common Parts listed, then separate sections for each model listing the parts peculiar to that model.

Mine shows the sear spring as a Common Part with Colt P/N SP50179.

About the only parts in the frame that are different are the mainspring housing and the asociated parts from it.

If memory serves me right, there is only one sear spring for all models. But the person to ask for that is Hawkmoon. I am pretty sure he has the answer to your question. I remember we have discussed that issue.

The array of 1911's do by in large use the same sear spring, with Para being very questionable as their sear spring is longer and a genuine Colt will not work by only a few thousandths in them. Also of interest is while the Colt Officers uses a standard sear spring it does use a short MSH and the Detonics which came out before the Officers uses a much shorter sear spring and a standard MSH.
