View Full Version : Ejector too long?

I had an extended ejector and a new extractor installed to help cure (I thought) some problems my Series 70 Colt was having extracting/ejecting and jamming. Now it seems to extract and eject spent casings quite well, but when I try to eject a live round to clear, the round does not want to eject.

Is my ejector too long? Could it be something else? Would it help to slightly reduce the extended nose on the ejector?

The ejector is too long, yes. You can cut the nose back as short as you like. If it's running right, take note of how the nose is shaped, angle, etc., and keep it that way.

Is my ejector too long?Yes - too long to eject a loaded 230gn RN cartridge. Common problem.Could it be something else? No, unless the COAL of the cartridge is too great.Would it help to slightly reduce the extended nose on the ejector?Yes, that's about the only cure (other than a scalloping cut at the forward end of the ejection port for bullet clearance).

Shortening the ejector will probably, however, change the ejection pattern. If you do it, maintain the same ejector nose profile. And you might want to get another ejector in case the present one gets misfiled. It's pretty easy to file it wrong.
