When dry firing is it better to just let the slide fly back shut or to hand ride it back? I have read different opinions on other boards so I thought I'd ask the 1911 experts.
Thanks for your help.

Best to hand ride it back. With no cartridge being fed from the magazine to slow down the slide, hand riding eliminates the elevated level of impact stress on the barrel feet, SS pin and SS pin hole in the frame.

If you rack the slide, "ride" it back rather than allowing it to slam home on an empty chamber. But ...
... why are you racking the slide? I just cock the hammer when dry firing. Since I DON'T ride the slide when firing "for effect," training to ride the slide when dry firing is not valid practice because it trains for a sequence different from real life.
Of course, the same can be said for manually cocking the hammer ...

Of course, the same can be said for manually cocking the hammer ... ....unless you're practicing your cowboy quick draw.:p

Unless he carries condition 3 and is practicing the whole presentation sequence. :-(
