Sig 1911 Blackwater for duty?

Hey all, NewB to 1911's here, but a LEO, an 11B, and an avid shooter. So I'm in the process of switching departments and the new dep't authorizes the 1911 for duty carry--in fact, most in that department do carry a 1911. I've been lurking around here and the 10-8 forums gathering info on various duty 1911's, but I haven't heard too much about the new Sig 1911's. I'm specifically interested in the Blackwater edition because of the rail and the ambi thumb safety (plus it's a looker!). I currenty carry a P226R .40 S&W for duty and own a P220 Compact for CCW and have nothing but great experiences with Sig. I would like to hear from some of you that have experience with the newer model Sig 1911's (NOT the GSR) and get some pros and cons for carrying this pistol as a duty weapon. Thanks in advance!

edit: I know that the logical choice would be to stick to what I'm familiar with (P220-226, etc.) but I really want to get into the 1911's.

The only thing that I can think of that may be of concern is the Sig slide has a different profile than other 1911's on the market. Because of this, you may have some trouble finding a holster that will fit correctly. I believe the well fit custom leather holsters and especially kydex holsters will be the biggest problems unless they are specifically built for the Sig 1911. You should be able to find a holster, just be aware of the difference and specify you have a Sig when ordering.

Good point...I would be using a Safariland Level III Retention holster.

You would need to check with Safariland to make sure their holster would fit.

They make a 6280 that is for the SIG GSR. Its what I carry my duty GSR in.

Seeing as Blackwater is no longer Blackwater that handgun may as well end up becoming a collector's item. ;)

I just got my Blackwater 1911 today. What an awesome piece. I'm taking it out to the range in the morning to start the break-in.

It will be replacing my S&W 1911PD as my duty weapon after 1000 rounds give or take.

Just FYI it properly fits with my Xti Procyon light on the rail in my Safariland 6280 for my S&W if you can't locate one for a Sig

Just personal preferance. I'm a Sig "Classic Line" armorer and have always been a fan of their product. I also have a 239 and 229.

The only time the public, or sector of society I deal with, will be able to see it out of the holster, is when they are staring down the business end. So I'm not gonna worry about it.

Besides, I bought it for the quality, and sum of the parts. Not as a Blackwater Corp advocate

i may be wrong on this but isnt blackwater continuing as blackwater in the united states and only changing their name overseas?
