Hi all,
First I want to say thanks for the info I received here, concerning my first IPSC match!
I am getting ready for my second match , and I ordered 3 of the Uncle mikes double magazine pouches (belt). I can't seem to get them on my belt and use the belt loops on my pants :( .
Maybe I should get single mag pouches?
What are you guys using? What can you recommend? I am shooting a 1911 in Single Stack division.
I wanted to be able to keep mags 5 on the belt, and one in the gun, and a Barney mag in my pocket. Do you all think think that is too many mags?
Maybe 1 mag in the gun, and 4 on the belt, and 1 Barney mag in my pocket?

That's what I do.

Thanks, I used my Dremel this evening and removed one of the belt slots on one side of one of the mag pouches. Now they fit around my belt loops on my pants.

I have one in my gun, four on the belt, and maybe one in my back pocket. I've not come across a stage where I've needed more (there was a local match with +300 minimum round count, but I didn't make it to that one).
What all the cool IPSC kids are doing is using a two-part belt (DAA or CR Speed). It has an inner part that goes thru your belt loops and is basically a long piece of velcro. The outer part of the belt has the other velcro component and is really stiff. The outer part is what you put your holster and mag carriers on. This way, you don't have to worry about the belt loops on your pants (cuz' pants have their belt loops in different places which affects where the stuff can go).

That's what I use here in Greece. Works fine, as long as you reverse the outer, i.e the two ends of the outer belt end up in the rear, while the inner ones meet at the front.
It's not really seen as a 'cool thing' here... they're pretty cheap, certainly cheaper than a good leather belt!

Read the IPSC/USPSA rules for single stack. Look at the required location for mag pouches & holster. Blade Tech has the best double mag pouches. You can always skip a belt loop to properly position the mag pouches.
I shoot single stack 9mm minor. Stage setup & how I will shoot it dictates how many mags I carry & mag capacity. I use 9 & 10 round mags. Normal setup is 4 mags in pouches & three in my left back pocket. I will use one from my back pocket to load & make ready. The load & make ready mag can be a 9 or 10 round mag depending on when I want to change the mag. If I need 10 rounds to shoot when starting off I will also top off so that I have one round chambered & 10 rounds in the clip. If I only need 8 rounds to shoot I will use a 9 round mag, chamber one round & have 8 rounds in the mag. After shooting the 8 rounds & doing a mag change this leaves one round chambered and no need to initiate the slide release.
The key is planning how you are going to shoot the stage & when mags need to be changed. Accuracy is also a key component along with time. If at all possible do not shoot any more rounds than the stage count. Extra rounds cost you more time & penalties can be accrued depending on how the stage is scored.
Don't know what caliber your shooting but you might want to look into shooting Limited 10.
Good luck with your shooting.
