Received my GI45 recently and man I really am impressed with it so far. Only thing.....I do not like that Integral Locking System at all. Sorry I must be too set in my ways but it just seems Hokey and totally unecessary in my opinion. So what's to getting that cancer off of my Springer? Buy a GI/Colt mainspring housing and replace it? Or am I oversimplifying it? Thanks in advance for any info.

Yep. You got it. Change the "guts" also.

I agree with Prezzz change out the guts too.

SA puts 28lb main springs in their guns. While a stock spring in most everything else is 23lb. Find a MS housing that you like, get a 23lb main spring, then replace the mainspring cap and add a cap pin. The SA housing pin retainer can be kept, as they are the same as most any aftermarket style.

Ok I'm a bit confused. At the gun show last week I got a Colt GI mainspring housing ,Main Spring Cap, and the Main Spring Cap Pin. So I can't use the ILS Main Spring? So I need the (23#) Main Spring and what other parts?

Thanks for the help.

You can use the 28#, it's just more spring than you need is all.

Sorry for the confusion.........you don't NEED anything else. The 23lb spring will give you a slightly better trigger and get the gun back where JMB made it......with the proper main spring weight. The 23lb will make it easier to cycle the gun by hand as well.

If you do replace it I'd like to buy the one you take off. I dropped my gun and damaged (cosmetic only) the MSH and I happen to like the ILS. I know I can buy a replacement from Springfield but I'm hoping you'll give me a lower price. :)

Yes, when you change the other stuff............take out the spring that's in there, and put the 23lb in.

I just left the ILS in mine, But I did change out the firing pin, I didn't have a problem with the pin, but I heard stories about them, I put in an Ed Brown and left the rest alone. either way the advise you got here is right on the money.

I would also like to know where I can get a 23# spring for the ILS MSH. Anyone know?

Brownell's , gunshow...............just about any gunsmith or gun store that has a 'smith on board.

Brownell's is probably the best place IMHO to order parts from, the Catalog they send you just goes on and on, like cutting a dog loose in a meat market,
