Do any of you hear the spring when you rack the slide? Mine sounds like people on an old bed...
My other 1911 doesn't do that and my original Armscor didn't do it, but my Rock definitely does. I have checked to see if anything is wrong, but nothing seems off... it is just a very very loud. No big deal, just wondered if anyone else hears it...

Yes I hear mine. If it annoys you you could just swap it out for a Wolf spring. I oil my spring when cleaning so mine doesn't seem to be as loud as yours.

Are you walking when you rack the slide?
Have you been shooting a lot lately?
I notice when I am walking, every time my heels hit the floor I hear "boing-boing-boing". :D

It's the spring rubbing on your recoil spring cap internal surface. Your other pistols must have a full length guide rod, most probably.
On a side note, lately my left hip sound very much like the sound you are getting. Can I replace something in there, or I need to visit the gunsmith? ? Oh pardon, I mean a doctor.

I suggest you replace it with one from Brown or Wilson! :appld:

John, I've been hearing good things about Flitz. But just enough to take out the tooling marks, you don't want to shorten your leg too much.

I picked up a FLGR from a member of another forum today, just to see if it would make that sound go away. Yes, I am going to perform the forbidden act, and purposefully install a full length guide rod :scared:
I expect to have to do a bit of fitting, as I have already tried to install an FLGR from my Kimber and it wouldn't drop into the frame. The flat at the base of the guide rod was too wide to fit inside the frame.

Did he say people on an old bed or old people on a bed?? :nono:
My Tactical has a full length guide rod and no strange noises :D

It must be the shorter guide rod, because the sound only occurs at the end of the slide travel (to the rear).
By the way, I haven't given my RIA its due credit in the past. It is growing on me in leaps and bounds... last night I put some grip tape on the front and gave her some lovin'. With a new front sight, she might be my next carry piece.
I though of her as cheap, but I am beginning to really appreciate her simplicity.
