A clue to original finish on the Colt M1911.

All M1911's were polished the same way, with the exception of some very early examples. The upper frames were polished across while the grip portion was polished down on both sides. Most are obvious and some not so much.

The restorers are aware of this and the better restorers will polish the frame like the original..... So anytime you are looking at a 1911, look at the frame polish! (This does not apply to Government Models)

I am sure about Colts', however I'm not sure about the rest......
