I was in one of my local shops tonight browsing for something to take the place of my Glock 23 as a lightweight, polymer framed DAO pistol to carry during the summer months when I don't want an all metal firearm hanging off of my hip. While in there, I came across a Remington Rand 1911 that appears to be of the WWII era and with a consignment price of $1250.00. From looking at the gun (visible portions from field strip), it appears to be all original. That said, is $1,250.00 a good price for that gun or should I hold out for something else? BTW, there are no roll marks on the left side of the slide, the only markings are "U.S. Property" and Remington Rand Model 1911 on the right side of the frame in the spot typical of serial numbers. The serial number also appears in that location. If this turns out to be a flop, there's always the Colt Series 70 and Colt WWI repros sitting right next to it in the case at about $300 less on each.

Nothing on left side of slide does not sound right.

Are there any stampings on the right side of the slide?

Don't recall if there was anything on the right side of the slide. I'll have to check when I'm back in there later this week to pick up some more range ammo.

Remington Rand was never rollmarked on the RH side with the USP, model, and serial number.... and most certainly not on the frame. If this is the case, sounds like Bubba is on the loose again.

Sounds like this is one to pass on then...I suppose I'll have to keep searching for that magic military issued gun...dang it. The only other gun that I've come across recently that fits my criteria of a 1930's-1940's 1911 is an Ithica that's been butchered by the addition of Bo-Mar Adjustable sights and a Videki type trigger.
