Just bought a Remington Rand 19111A1 very good condition serial number
926253.. The slide reads Remington Rand INC
SYRACUSE.NEW YORK

HAS A BARREL MARKED COLT.45 AUTO. frame M1911A1 US ARMY.
Inspection marked FJA.
It had plain wooden grips which I replaced with GI plastic ones
Question is what year was it made, and would this pistol have been issued with these wood grips.. They had no diamond checkering. Looked like the plastic but wood??I can never get a photo on this site but will send one to email . to anyone to have a look..
thanks

Congratulations on finding a Type I Remington Rand. That is getting a little late for a Colt barrel, but not impossible. What marking is ahead of the barrel lug? The original finish would have been Du-Lite blue over a sandblasted finish. The inside of the pistol where it was not sandblasted will be a bright blue.
Your Remington Rand was made in January of 1943, and would have had Keyes plastic grips with no reinforcing rings around the screw holes.
This one is not too far from yours, but has a High Standard barrel.

Some of the Type I Remington Rands had a slightly different hammer, which did not come from Colt, as it is slightly different from any of the other 1911A1 hammers.
All the military Colt barrels had some type of mark on the bottom ahead of the lug. Some of the F marked barrels are so lightly struck as to hardly show.
Try this for a set of grips. I understand they are literally "at the bottom of the barrel" on the grips, and the quality of some have not been that good.
