I just recently bought my first 1911, a Para P12-45. i have shot my father's kimber tac custom 2 on numerous occations, but i like this para even better my huge hands i guess. but my question is i dont have night sights on it, and was wondering if yall have tried the glow paints you can buy from dura coat? or do you just use white fingernail polish?

The glow paints aren't really a substitute for night sights. It needs to be "charged" by exposure to light unlike the self powered, radioactive night sights.

Personally, I'm not a fan of "three dot" sights. Tritium night sights serve a purpose in low light. My preference on a carry/self defense gun would be night sights, or a black rear sight with either a tritium dot or gold accent (dot or line) on the front. Plain black sights are fine with me too.

If you'd like to try some color on the front sight to aid quick acquisition, you could try a little yellow glow paint on the front sight.

What Frank said. Paints are no substiture for real night sights.

On my guns that are not equipped with night sights or a colored front sight, I utilize white nail polish. It may not be as good as night sights, but it is a huge improvement over dark front sights.

Cmh2007, Hogue as well as many others offer grips for the Para P-12 pistols.

Welcome to the forum.
I'd recommend actual night sights.

FWIW, I have the Nightsighters luminescent dots on the GI sights of my carry gun. Definitely a good budget alternative, but I will get true nightsights at some time.
They are brighter than tritium - initially - but the glow degrades over the hours. They also seem to glow during day hours inside, are brighter and easier to acquire than the plain three dot set-ups I have.
Value wise they are absolutley worth the $10 or so IMO, but they are not tritium so do have some shortcomings like needing to be charged (which is an affirmative action for a carry gun). But hey, you get more than your moneys worth if you are doing a cost/benefit analysis.
