jburr, first let me say welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place to find out about these pistols. Before I or anyone else for that matter can begin to help you; we need to know some more information. A picture would be the best thing as they say a picture is worth 1000 words. However, if you are looking at a pistol for sale somewhere I understand how this could be a difficult task. I'm going to post some pictures. I need to know which the pistol your looking at most resembles as there are three different models of combat elites now. One more thing; there is no such thing as 100% once a pistol is used. A good description is LNIB (like new in box).

You are correct LNIB is a more accurate description it is serias 80 enhanced round hammer flat top slide looks like 100% no slide wear or powder burns around muzzle
thanks for the welcome I know guns just not as much as I should to go out and spend a grand without a little studying

I think that the second pistol is a Combat Government Model, which evolved into the Combat Elite.

I could probably buy a Rock Island and build c CE clone I know that it would never be a Colt but and I would not be out $950 all at once . Maybe I can convince my fiance I need a wedding present

I wouldn't spend $950 for an enhanced Combat Elite purely based on my opinion. If you like the flat top slide and crooked cocking serrations. Then well, that is entirely up to you. A friend of mine says you can't pay too much for a Colt..."Just too soon". If the gun is truly LNIB. It might be worth $850.00. See if you can offer that. I think they are going to have a real problem on they're hands selling an enhanced Combat elite at the price I've been seeing the brand new XSE Combat Elite sell for which coincidently is also enhanced. Plus it has "nicer" features such as Smith and Alexander beaver tail, real novak rear sight, and a dovetail front sight. The stocks are nicer too. Furethermore, the new Colt carries their service agreement (warranty) where anything past 1988 I believe does not. Something to think about. Please understand this is purely my opinions.

The rear sights are "Champion sights" but advertised as Novaks which are similar.
A new gun has some advantages. shoot it for six months and then send it back.

On which pistol? The Combat Elite, Justin is referring to, has real Novaks.

My Lightweight Commander Super .38 had Champion sights and so does my Defender,
I have compared the sights on the websites, maybe thay use both.
The Champion sights have a patent date on them and may be Novaks' for all I know.
This my observations anyway and open to correction.
I will try to do a picture here shortly

Colt has used both, they are currently using Champions, the pistol I posted is wearing Novaks.

You can clearly see the sights on the pistol in post #10 do not have the gawdy serrations like Champion sights do. Which by the way makes them real Novaks.

I wasn't dissageeing. Colt advertises Novaks and my Guns have/ had Champions
They are quite similar.

"You can't pay too much for a Colt, just too soon".
You truly have used the ODi Wan mind trick on the poor child.....
I would look to buy a new one, hand pick it to make sure it doesn't have that blasted rub mark so many are having right now. The new Colt's have a good warranty that you can take advantage of if there are any issues.

Oh, ok. I actually thought you just didn't know how to tell the difference between the champions and the novaks. I used to own an XSE Lightweight Commander with Champions on it.

Mind trick or not...I think the OP has decided to get a RIA and turn it into a clone CE. Actually, if all he cares about is having a two tone gun...he'll save a ton of money.

Rocks are nice, but they're not a Colt and don't get the same resale value a Colt will. Now, with that said, if he wants a bi tone and isn't horsey crazy, you're right, a Rock will fit the bill and he'll have a few dollars left over.
Dan does that mind trick of his on some of us. He's used it on me a few times. ;)

It's not just logic, he's very good at remembering what people want and if he comes across it, he calls. He's gotten me several things in the past couple of years.
