Colt info.

A friend of mine was hoping I could shed some light on his father's pistol. I have a very limited knowledge of Colt 1911s, so I thought I would (with permission) post the pics here and let you guys "fill in the blanks." The gun doesn't look like anything special to me, in fact it looks like it might be a mix-master of sorts. No "U.S. Property" or proof marks that I can tell from the photos. The serial number is 404XXX. Any info or input would be appreciated, thanks.

You're right, the pistol is mismatched with parts from different pistols. It has also been heavily buffed and refinished.
