I'm buying the 1976 9mm pistol below and I know the night sights and grip screws aren't original but I'm wondering about the flat mainspring housing. Should it be arched like my 80's .45 Commander or is this flat one correct?
Thanks for any help,
Mike in Vancouver BC

Nice Commander. I just picked up a pre series 70 Commander in 9mm and it has an arched mainspring housing. I guess your should have one, but someone will be along soon enough that will know for sure.

Looks very nice flat, but I'm pretty sure they came arched from Colt then. I'm about 95% on that - could be wrong, any experts please get us to 100%!

Yes, Mike, the catalog only shows an arched MSH. Nice pistol either way!

Thanks for the info. I don't know why people try and second guess Colt by modding these pistols but that's their choice I guess. I'd like to put it back to original so if anyone can steer me toward an arched mainspring housing, sights, & grip screws I'd be obliged.
Thanks,
Mike

Here is a link to Brownells page.

Midway USA has them also.

Ed Brown has a plain and grooved arched mainspring housing that matches Colt's blueing very well. The grooved version would be the closest to the original version that came on that pistol.

I believe that the only Colts to use the flat serrated mainspring housing from the factory was the post war NM and Gold Cup. The Combat GM.
Of course the 1911 had the smooth flat housing, but that's another thread.
Any help
