View Full Version : 1/2 of an Elite Team

I met my shootin bud Larry yesterday and wound up buying a Combat Elite variation from him called the Elite Team.......I think I caught him in a "rifle moment".

Here's the story if you're interested.

The plan was for me to drive towards his area to meet at our favorite shop, with me stopping at a pawn/gunshop on the way to look at a NIB Combat Elite. I might have bought it if there were no issues, having been kinda interested in a new CE or a new Delta since their announcement.

Well, here are the facts. I looked at the CE and report that it had 2 issues that prevented me from getting serious. It already was rubbing the blue from the right side of the slide, and the slide itself was hanging over the rear of the frame. I can't guess how far, but for me, it was significant. I put the CE back, not feeling too bad as the price was 979.99. Too high, I think.

Talking to Larry on the phone as I continued to meet him, he kinda shocked me by saying if I wanted a CE, I could buy a LNIB Elite Team he has. It is 1/2 actually......part of a set of 2 Colts, a Delta Elite and a Combat Elite with matching serial numbers and rollmarks. Sadly......no matching Delta though.

The deal was done at our favorite shop.....and here's the pics. I took off the orignal wrap-arounds, and put on wood and screws.

WoW that is a nice one. Very old school looking and I like the Gold medallions and the lack of cocking serrations on the front!! :appld: Congratulations. Floyd

Paul if you don't mind I would like to add a little to your post. I have been on a Rifle kick lately like my friend Patrick. And I bought this TE several years ago with the hope of finding the other half of the team.

After searching for several years no luck! So in a moment of weakness I sold it to Paul. It will be missed but oh well I have several CE in my modest collection anyway.

Congrats Paul on a fine pistol. But as you well know I don't buy junk anyway!
:bf:

Now for the important question You, me and Pat need to go shooting next week?

Sad news about that new CE at the other shop! I really had my heart into adding one to my stash. Oh well maybe I can find a good one in the future!

FloydYou must win the prize vashooter! 3 days since I posted this fine scarce Colt and you are the only one to care to reply other than myself and the seller, Larry! Thank You for you kind comments......I find I prefer "old school" Colts over new ones.

I find it interesting and somewhat dismaying that my post, attempting to discuss and show a fine Colt, garners one reply......while a thread about rules gathers 143 posts.

I find that kinda sad.......

I guess that I would rather look at nice pistols than rules?? ;) Floyd

I wouldn't feel that bad about things, it had over 110 looks.

I find a lot more people look than post.

Nice gun. I just picked up a 1st year mint CE the other day.

It's pretty sad when I keep hearing how the new CE's are having problems...sounds like someone at Colt needs to pay attention more to QC!

Paul,

That is a great looking pistol. I would much rather have that pistol than a new CE. Larry is a good friend to let that one go.

Very nice pistol! What rules post? ;) The fabric displays it nicely, too.

Great story and a gorgeous pistol. I really like the look with the wood panels over the wraparounds. A real beauty…

Nice looking Colt you adopted, congrats.
I hadn't seen the post but I'm glad I finally did. I haven't seen one of those before this.

Thanks to everyone that responded! It does not exhibit any of the issues that new ones do........hopefully Colt can see the need to tighten their QC up.......ALOT.

Too bad the Delta never showed up. That would be one heckuva team to have.

Wow! That is a beautiful pistol! It coming from a friend, takes out all of the worries that accompany a used gun purchase.

If it is a sin to covet another man's pistol, I am guilty! :)

Best of Luck!
