I'm going to order my new Colt. I'm just trying to decide if the Gold Cup Trophy is worth the extra 100.00, compared to the XSE Government. Both in stainless. I do like the idea of adjustable sites.

Nice choices! I'll let the "experts" give their opinion, but I believe I'd go with the adjustable sights if that's what I wanted. Especially if you didn't care for the front serrations and ambi-safety on the XSE. And there's probably not that much difference in the price between the two here in Texas. Enjoy! :D

Horseman, I am trying to make a similar decision.

Do you plan to carry and is that going into your decision making process?

Colt XSE Commander, Gold Cup Trophy and or Special Combat.

I want to carry some, but maybe more time in my car.

My first Colt ...........any ideas.

I do plan to carry it, the adjustable sights from what I heard, are some what awkward from a holster. From my perspective with the proper holster it should not be a factor. I’m just having a time, trying to justify the extra 100 between the to. It would be nice to get some input for some of the members who have these models to chime in.

How does an adjustable sight influence holstering a pistol?

Check the other options on a Gold Cup such as the wider trigger, bushing, supposed better fit, etc. Let's face it; most of us change parts to upgrade our 1911's. But there are some parts that can't be changed if the basic frame or slide weren't made for them, unless you want to spend buco bucks. In the long run, it is more cost effective to spend a little bit more upfront. And remember, you can't have just one, 1911.

A colt gold cup is a fine gun, but unless you are going to shoot IDPA, or matches with it the sghts on it if I remember correctly are black adjustable rear and black front. My eyes are getting older and I like my dots on both sets. In other words a little hard to see in low light conditions for carry, plus the squared blade can influence a draw from a CCW standpoint as they can snag clothing. They make an adjustable Novak style sight for the rear if you go with an XSE, but they come with a fixed Novak with white dots. IMO I would get what suited you better for what you are going to mainly do with the pistol. I have A colt defender, a Colt XSE commander and a Combat Elite, which is also an XSE but without the ambi safety. Hope this helps as I like all of my Colts even though one is being sent for repair. If you want adjustable sights, get the Gold Cup. If you don't get the XSE. Colt's don't really go down in value unless they are mistreated. Take good care of it and you'll always have something that is worth nearly what you paid for it.

If I may......the new Gold Cups are just production guns.....no more from the custom shop. I have one, it's nice and all, but I also have other Colts that are more entry level and fitted better.

I, in the past year or so, have come to think the Gold Cup is rather over-priced.

I have to agree! With it not being made in the custom shop anymore for me it really isn't anything special anymore! Bad mistake on Colts part IMHO! ;)
