Still looking for a low-cost Commander-size 1911 clone. But I already have two with 3-1/2" barrels, and I have been dismayed to find that most of what is currently sold as Commander-size has 4" barrels, not 4-1/4". I'm finding very little with a true 4-1/4" barrel at the low end of the price spectrum (in fact, not finding much anywhere in the spectrum!).
There is a mail order catalog put out by F.A.C (also called Guns-n-Stuff). They offer their own house brand of 1911 with a 4-1/4" barrel, as well as a 1911 kit. Has anyone had experience with either their house brand pistol, or their kits?
TIA

How low is low? Colt is making the 1991 in a Commander.

Colts NRM commander looks pretty good. They aren't super low priced but they are the best you can get a 4 1/4" barrel in. Maybe even an ORM there are still a few out there. I had one of the ORM it ran just fine.

If you looking for a project gun or one that will run out of box? Out of box best bet today is a S&W 1911 Sc, true 4 1/4" brrl at 28.5 Oz and does it ever go. Under $800. almost every where Bought mine as soon as available for $778 out the door. Only extra was a 'Bobtail", my perference, not required. Harlie

Go with the new Para LTC. I have the SSP and it is outstanding! Accurate and well made. I just got my Norc Commander back from 'smith. For what I paid to get the gun the way I wanted it I could have darn near bought an LTC. For sure you can as the Paras are cheaper down there than up here.

If you follow the Para forum, you'll see that I have two Paras now. IMHO the new Paras are so ugly that if I were given one today it would be sold tomorrow. I don't even care if it shoots, I won't own and carry a gun that offends my senses.

Love the looks of mine. Guess that is why we married the ladies we did! If we all thought the same there would be one happy lady in this world and a lot of unhappy ones! LOL I bought mine to offend the senses of someone else. Cheers

I just bought a Commander clone made by S.A.M. It is supposed to be a 4 1/4" barrel. I'm waiting on delivery. I can let you know if you're interested.
Also, I checked FAC. I saw the kit, but the only 1911's I saw were Auto Ordnance. Did I miss one?

I just got my newest FAC catalog and they aren't showing the SAM .45's anymore. They might still be in stock but need to telephone to verify.

Please let me know about the S.A.M.
The most recent FAC catalog doesn't have the section with their "house brand" 1911s. Don't know if they discontinued them or just don't list them any more.

Have you looked into a Safari Arms Enforcer? Lots of features at a reasonable price. You can see examples at Gunbroker.com and Gunsamerica.com. Jim

I own a S.A.M. 'Commodore'. I love it. I have put around 300 rds through it and she works like a beaut. The magazine was kind of cheapish and I did have some problems with that but I got a wilson tactical stainless steel mag and it works like a charm.
