Am considering the purchase of a 1911 (had a chance to shoot a Colt Series 70 and really liked it), and came across a Colt made in 1948. The condition from what I can tell is quite good but have a couple of questions. Firstly, the asking price is $1400 ... so, is this a good price for a vintage Colt. Secondly, could this be a regular shooter for me or would I have to relegate it to my safe?
Thanks for your help ... I've enjoyed reading other postings.

Good pictures and more detailed information would help. Just off the cuff, and based on what you've posted thus far, I'd say that if it's in decent shape and original, it's probably not something you'd want to shoot a lot. And if it's not in decent shape and original, the price may be on the high side. As they say, "The devil is in the details."

I just went to a gun show and seen a 1943 Colt 1911-A1 for $1695.00. I got him down to $1500.00 and he would not budge any lower. It was in fairly good shape with the normal blueing wore off from holster wear and the front strap had blueing wore off,no rust and scratches were presant. It was rather weak when droping the hammer so springs were an issue.I felt that the price was just a little steep. Now if it was say,$1000.00,I may have jumped on it.I am new at looking at the WWII Colts and really don't know how to price them and what to look for in quality.I may have even passed up a good deal.
