Hello,
I have known about these interesting tool marks for some time now and wanted to share will everyone.
Please notice the "3" tooling mark on the frame of my Colt New Agent. There is a "5" on the other side but back near the mag release. I guess I have an "odd" gun huh. But seriously, I have seen these type identification marks in manufacturing before when the manufacturer wants to track defects back to an individual machine. This is a strong indication that my New Agent was made on one of Colts new CNC machines. Probably a Mori Seiki CNC like I've seen so many places.

They are assemblers marks, my 1950 has 95 on the right side and a Q on the left side, I pretty sure they weren't using CNC at the time. ;)
Colt has done this for years an years, nothing unusual about the markings.

Thank you.
My other Colt doesn't have these type marks?
Is this where the cutting tools clamped the frame or where someone stamped the frame?
Mostly all of my pistols have these clamp marks but just not numbered. I am pretty shure they are clamp marks.
I will take a picture of my Commander to show the regular clamp marks.

They are not clamp/tooling marks, they are stamps deliberately stamped on the pistols. You will also find them with the Verified Proof mark (VP in a triangle).
My other Colt's are marked so;
1978 Left P Right F
1979 Left R Right B
1984 Left S Right P
1987 Left 7 Right 8
1988 Left N Right Q
