Hello to all,

I'm moving my collecting interests toward US firearms from the Soviet arena so I'm dazed and confused...

I want to acquire a nice 1911 and wanted to know what to look for. So I have some questions:

Are the pistols on GunBroker OK to buy?
What should I look for?
Are WWII vintage better or worse?
Is there a manufacturer that is more collectible?

I'm looking to spend between $700 and $1500, is there a better place to look?

Thanks in advance,

Rusty

Gunbroker can be a good source. I bought a beautiful M1911A1 from 1943 there (it's for sale, too, if you're intrested!) As stated by many before me - "Buy the gun, not the story." If you would like help assessing ones of interest you can PM me and I could offer whatever expertice I have, as time permits. Buying firearms online does pose serious limitations. Just be careful and thorough and you can find real nice ones.

Paul gives some solid advice!
Serious collector's usually possess a copy of Charles W. Clawson's 3rd edition Collector's Guide. Send a PM to "Scott Gahimer" one of our Moderator's who has a source for the book.

Best of Luck!
Rich

EDIT: Here is a post you should read by Scott!
