Hi Guys,

Visited a few times and felt it was time to join. It was killing me not to see pictures of all of your fine firearms! :D

As my name implies, I am a retired law enforcement officer of 25 years. I worked patrol, and about the last 15 years as a detective. I had to carry a Glock while I worked, but the 1911, and more specifically the Colt bug bit me. I came across a goverment model a few years ago and purchased it. Then I went into my local gun store (King's) to buy some ammo and saw this Colt in the case. Well, my box of ammo just got a bit more expensive. It's an XSE with a few modifications. I took it to Alan Tanaka of Gardena, Ca, and had some Ed Brown parts installed. He also checkered the front grip, opened up the rear sights a bit, and dehorned it.

There is just no comparison on how the Colt feels, shoots, and carrys as compared to a Glock. The Glock has its plus points, but for me personally, there is no comparison.

Welcome to the forum Mat! Glad to see you went Colt. There are a lot of fine firearms on the market today, but imho, none carry the history, respect and authority of Colt. Btw, that's a gorgeous sidearm. Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum, Retired Dick '08! :wc: Enjoy your retirement!

Wow, you actually live near Kings, I'd be so broke if I lived near them. That place is legendary for 1911's.

Welcome. You've entered the fold. Nice Commander. Like Hunter's signature says...If it ain't a Colt it's a copy! Thanks for your service.

daveohno, Kings hasn't been the same the past few years with them getting ready to sell. I went to them to do the work on the Commander and they weren't taking in any more work. That's when I went to the Guild to look for a gunsmith in my area. I haven't been in there in months. Very sad.

Hi Dick and welcome - that's a beautiful Colt. I am also LE for the Government and have to carry a Glock (or any double action type .40 caliber). They are a fine pistol but they aren't a Colt. I started out my LE career carrying a Colt Combat Commander but when I moved to the Feds I had to give up carrying the 1911 on duty... I have three Colt 1911s and they are just great. I shoot them almost once a week and I am getting the bug to get a commander sized Colt.

Enjoy retirement - I am almost there.... and enjoy your Colt!!!!
