I was given this Colt in July 1967 by a Marine Captain, in South Vietnam, just after it saved both his life and mine!!

Which, by the way, was the last time it was fired!!!!!!

Yeah Bob, the slide was not bead blasted therefore it is smooth. There are few examples of this type finish still around. Which did not meet Mil Spec, BTW! The SA inspector let it slide, no pun intended!!!!

Actually, this frame and the slide are Parko-Lubrite, but since the slide was not blasted, it has a different "look".

This photo really shows the different difference between the finish preperation between the frame and slide...

Colt was given authorization to use Parko-Lubrite in December of 1944. Any late Colt which has a phosphate finished bullet ramp is finished in Parko-Lubrite, as Colt was given a waiver to discontinue the final polish of the bullet ramp due to the smoother finish.
Colt sandblasted the frames of most of the late pistols, but did not sandblast the top of the frame or the bullet ramp. Also, most of the slides of the late pistols were not sandblasted, leaving them with a very smooth finish. A few late Colts are found in which neither the frame or slide were sandblasted before finish.
The attached photo shows a late Colt with Parko-Lubrite finish. The frame has been sandblasted, but the slide hasn't.

Very nice looking 1911-A1. Does his Form have a G.I. 1911-A1 Photo thread?
