I'm looking to buy my first 1911, and I want it to be a stainless steel colt!
Normally I'm more open minded to all brands, but Colt 1911s just seem more special to me... plus none of them have the front slide serrations that I hate.

I want to keep it under $1000, I plan to conceal carry it, and I want the full 5" size.

After browsing around, the Colt Gold Cup Trophy really really caught my eye. The only problem I have with it is that I prefer the Novak sights which the Gold Cup Trophy is incompatible with. And it has no prancing pony on the slide. :( And I hear it has a wider trigger, is that a good/bad thing?

Thanks guys.

Yes, some of them do have the FCS.

I don't think a Gold Cups sights are condusive to carry.

How bout a SS Series 70? Perhaps a 5 inch XSE......

Possibly a Combat Elite, once Colt sorts out some "teething" issues.

The 2 have do not have FCS are the Series 70 and the 1991.

The Series 70 does not have a firing pin safety, the 1991 does. Both seem to be afforably priced, solidly-built pistols. Take your pick.

Quick question... does the stainless steel gold cup have a different finish/shine than the other stainless steel colts?

I guess I'll have to spend some more time researching and looking around haha.

Same finish.

The Colt Custom in 38 Super has the bright stainless finish, but that finish will not hold up to carry, although it is fairly easy to brighten back up.

These both have the forward slide serrations. I have an XSE and don't mind them. Personal preference.

Hmm... well... I might just end up looking at a Gold Cup Trophy again. I've been told by some people that it's perfectly fine for concealed carry. Any reasons I should shy away from it?

adjustable sights can hang on clothing.
take a good look at the 70 series repro.

I carried a blue Gold Cup Trophy for a year or so. The rear Elliason did poke me a little so I broke the edges off with a file, that helped a lot. Adjustable sights are usually more fragile than fixed but you should take a look at the blued Special Combat Carry.
That would make an excellent target/carry pistol.
I feel the same way about Colt as you do.

Just how difficult would it be to get Novak sights put onto a Gold Cup Trophy?

I don't believe you could, without spending major money.
The rear of the slide is notched for the blade and adjustment screw to set in.
