I am looking to take some defensive/tactical pistol classes this year and read through some of the forums dealing with the same question but my three favorite Vickers, Thunder and Gunsite are all fairly far away for me her in Denver. I am willing to drive a little further and spend a little more but want to be sure that I explore all options close to home first. I would love it if they had a carbine/pistol combo class. Any help is really appreciated, Travis.

I'd be interested in this too since I'm down in Littleton. I know a couple of the range guys from Douglas County Sheriff, I'll ask them when I see them next week.

Excellent, let me know what you find out. I have been talking to the guys at Gunsite this week and I am starting to think that the 12 hour drive from where I am at might not be too bad for what they offer. Ill wait and see what you come up with first though.

It's about a 12 hour drive to Gunsite for me, and I've found it to be well worth it. I'm not sure exactly what your situation is, but I've always taken a few extra days and enjoyed the opportunity to travel through some very nice country.

Frank, is the facility or something very near conducive to tenting it?

They have camp grounds -- described at the bottom of this page: http://www.gunsite.com/info/lodging.html .

Hello,
It has been about two years ago since I moved from Aurora, CO to northern Virginia. When I was there I took classes from Larry Johnson of On Target Firearms Training http://www.ontargetfirearmstraining.com/index.php
I guess it would depend on the level of training that you want. I highly recommend his classes to people who want a CCW, but if you are way past that point, you should call him about specific advanced courses. I took his Level I (for CCW), Level II, Level III, and a special Pistol/Tactical Shotgun advanced class that he hand selected previous students for participation.
His shop was right next to Lenny's Ski and Golf on Parker Rd. just across from Hooters. The range was an outdoor range outside of Parker.
I found the affordibility, location, and Larry's personal knowledge to be very educational. He has a FATS simulator which is very useful for realistic scenarios as well. If you really want a weeklong, very advanced class at Gunsite then he may not have something comparible. If you just want some good training, give him a call. Tell him Rick that moved to Virginia recommended him.
Later, Rick S.
