I was just reading an old posting by Prezzz about his Commander with a 4 digit serial number. The four digit number raised quite a discussion. I have one that is also marked similarly. It has "Colt's Commander Model" on the right side, 70b.s2010 serial number, and a "Z" on the trigger guard. On the left side in has "Commander model" with a star on either side. It also has a flat, smooth mainspring housing. Aren't these markings unusual? It also has a very high polish gloss blue finish on the slide, slide stop lever, and the safety, reminiscent of a Python. It also has a lanyard ring on the bottom. I would welcome any thoughts on my gun.

No. I have a 38 super Commander, serial 70 be es 2995.
I would think the "z" is actually a "vp" .....a proof mark.

It is a very clear "V" . Maybe nothing unusual. One more question though, isn't it unusual to only say "Colt's Commander Model" on the right side? Shouldn't it in fact say "Colt's Combat Commander Model"? And the mark: Commander
* Model*
on the left side of the slide with a star on either side I haven't seen before either.
