Today I picked up a 1911 that I'm very happy with. I'd like to read more on it and find out how rare it actually is and maybe possible value. Also, if it was truly from the custom shop. ANY help would be greatly appreciated!! It came in original box with papers.

It is a stainless Colt Custom model 01070EUCC. 5" barrel, 45acp. Ser# SS2386xx.

The slide is marked "Colt Custom" on the left side and "colt government model". It had Bianchi wraparound finger groove grips, black rubber, with gold colt logo in star. Flat top with black 3 dot low profile combat style sights. Skeletonized hammer with beavertail grip safety.

Nice one! I like it!

I would guess from around '97.

Shame about the idiot scratch though........LOL! Hard to find a used piece that doesn't have one.

That's about as deep as I've seen. Yikes.

Be patient. It's Sunday morning for much of this side of the world and you only posted since yesterday about suppertime.

Not a big deal really.....the custom shop used to take different production models and change the rollmarks to "Colt Custom" and stuff them in a custom shop box. I have seen them come in your configuration, which is the time frame between the MKIV series 80 and the XS series, in Gold Cup, Gov't, Commander, and Officer size. It was probably done in a run of 500 or a 1000, I'm not really sure on numbers.

They did it with the XS series as well......

Cool piece. Is that grip safety original?

To that model, yes.

thanks, yes, it's all original.

How does it stack up to say a gold cup as far as production? I've owned one in the past, and this seems so much nicer. The slide is like glass and the trigger is light and crisp. I think there might be a light spring in it because I swear I can feel the cycle of the slide forward and back as I shoot, but it fed and fired full load 230g JHP and FMJ fine.

I can't believe that they would just take a regular production run gun and roll mark it "custom". I'm sure they had to have done some "custom" stuff.

I'm by no means an expert, and not really trying to justify my purchase. I have owned probably a dozen different 1911's so far, about half colts. The difference between this one and a standard MKIV is fairly significant.

It would be cool if someone had a late '90s catalog that might have a description and specs.

That seemed to be a "fuzzy time" for Colt. They seemed to be spinning off a lot of 500 gun runs. Thinking of Tucson, several years ago I saw a "Night Officers" Mod. with night sights at a pawn shop down there. The shop wanted $998 at the time with no box and no papers and I said no.
