I have a series 70 GCNM mfg. 1981. Does anyone know what mainspring it left the factory with ?

Its stated by those who apparently know, that the original S70s were shipped with two springs, one at 12# for very light loads, and one at 16# for heavier reloads and factory loads. I got my S70 used, and don't know what spring it had in it, although I suspect it was original. It now has a standard 16# spring which works fine with everything from modest reloads up through factory ammo.

This is the website for Wolf Springs. They list the standard for full size 1911s, including the Gold Cup as 23 lbs.

The last Gold Cup I had did not have a 23 lb mainspring. It gave misfires with a .22 conversion so I put in a full power GI mainspring, presumably 23 lbs. That set off the .22s but it also wore the hammer hooks down and I had to have the hammer and sear replaced.
I'd go with a 19.
