Hello all,
I'm looking to purchase a Fusion Arms FORGED Commander frame (with plunger tube and ejector installed) for a project I am building.
Does anyone here have any experience with these frames? Or any frames from Fusion Arms? Are they over sized (rails) by very much (will I have to do a lot of fitting)? I plan on using the slide assembly from my Colt LW XSE Commander (minus the FP safety) and don't want to alter the slide as I want to be able to restore the slide to the original frame if desired.
I know there is a large Caspian following on this forum, but thought I might ask about FusionArms frames.
TIA

Howdy from OFCC
Fusion's willing to do the fitting for you, the charge isn't too bad. I'm debating about using an officer's frame and a commander's slide or doing a 6.5 grendel AR, so I feel your pain.

I have two. Not much fitting involved with either. A colt Series 70 repro slide fit perfectly on the fusion frame with no fitting required. Just tried it.
A Baer commander size slide fit perfectly on an Officers size Fusion frame. The Baer slide had been fitted to a Baer frame, however. I don't think much fitting will be necessary.
The Fusion frames may require a high ride grip safety. Other than that, no problems with any other parts. Of course, YMMV.

I just started a project building an Officer's Model with a Fusion frame & slide. The slide was purchased before the frame & fit perfectly. The FP Stop did require some fitting, but it was minor & took all of 5 minutes. The slide is without a bushing style & the reverse spring plug needs to be fitted.
The frame is their light weight version and was well made with no real faults. All of the frame parts assembled with no problems except for the mainspring housing pin; the hole needed enlargement; another 5 minutes.
I did try a Colt Compact slide on the Fusion frame & it is tight & will require at least lapping. A Pit Bull slide I also have & tried will not go on the frame without extensive fitting.
Good Luck with your project.

I have a Fusion forged Officer frame that I could not be happier with. It has been fitted to a Commander slide. I have had these parts for awhile but was overseas, now I am back and I hope to have this project complete in a few short weeks.
I would not hesitate, Fusion is good to go.

Yes Caspian has a good solid following, myself included.
What we know is the frame is cast in the US and machined by Caspian in house. The slides are machined in house. All good, Good people and the good old USA with our evaporating industrial base.
The fusion slides and frames look good I agree. A couple years back an industry friend of mine commented on the finish the Korean slides had on the sides that they were Very well done. They were at shot again this year.
One unique property of the Korean frames is the trigger cut in the frame is done with an EDM machine. Kind of an identifier to tell you where they came from.
I do not know the alloy they are made from but they look good.
I know Caspian has been around for quite some time. We know the alloy they use in there slides and frames.
Well worth any difference in price to me and to the people we build guns for.

I always thought the Fusion slides/frames came from STI, they look so similar?
Or, is this "forgings/steel" come from one place and machined in the US, etc?
I imagine a lot of that is pretty common, given our declining manufacturing base..."world economy" and all that!
Becoming like the car companies...who really makes what. ;)

STI is very forthcoming about getting Single stack frames and slides from the Philipines. (perhaps not all theres but some) Nice to know and you make your decision informed.
When you KNOW companies that are Manufacturing here have offerings than I choose to support them.
