I am thinking about building a 1911 .45 and already have a complete Rock Island Armory slide. I was going to buy a RIA Frame from Sarco and there .45 Auto Builders Kit. Because the slide and frame are from the same manufacture will the parts fit in better or will i still need to do some finishing work on parts to make it function properly?

There's a good chance it will all fit together and function, but remember that all the parts are made subject to dimensional tolerances. Depending on how the tolerances of the indivual parts pair up, clearances can be very tight or very, very loose. You should anticipate having to do some minor fitting, but I don't think it will anything that can't be handled with a file and some emery cloth.

Very good, thanks...i am just looking to make a decent range gun nothing for competition. And i would hate to see a perfectly good slide go to waste. Is there anything in the sarco builders kit that wouldn't be advisable to use in a build?

I would agree with Hawk the fit should be pretty close on most things. Not sure about the parts from the parts kit though. I'm not certain if they are takeoff parts or New uninstalled parts from Rock Island. The compact I recently built required more filing and polishing that anyting else.

Rule #1: There is no such thing as a "drop in" part. So no matter if you get all the parts from the same manufacturer or source, you will still to fit the parts together.

Another question for you guys. Does anyone know if the plunger tube is installed on a rock island frame from Sarco or is that something that requires a special tool to install?

i bought a frame from rock island with nothing on it. i think i could have bought it with a plunger tube installed but i wanted to do everthing myself. plan to do some finishing. Im proud to say that mine shoots as good as my store boughts and i can tell you what i did to make it all work. no bragging with the bought ones and bragging about something you built is so much better. enjoy.

Keef I used a standard punch to lock mine in place on my build,(Not the recommended method) there is a special tool use you can buy on make if you need it.
