Thanks to Scott Gahimer, I now tend to look at markings alot closer, or try to anyways. After giving some of my collection its 6 month wipe down, I noticed something unusual on one of my M1911s.

This is 1918 M1911 serial number 551016. SA Eagle Head inspection present, the addition of the assembler's number on the lower left rear of the trigger guard present..... but there below the mag release is an upside down serifed 'L'......????? I never noticed it before, and I don't recall seeing one on any other late WWI M1911s either. Just another inspector initial, or ?????

Bob: Hmmm? I'm not sure, but the marking strikes me more as a broken "T" than an L. Either way, I don't ever recall seeing one struck that way either. Interesting...that gives us something else to keep an eye out for. Thanks.
