I just received my Warrior back from Drake's and I can't tell you how pleased I am! Drake was wonderful to work with and not to mention, did an outstanding job on everything that I asked to be done. Not only was hs work top notch, but the turn-around time as well as the prices and customer service is wonderful. If you are planning any work to be done on a 1911 or Melonite on a pistol, don't hestitate to give him a call.

Anyhow, here it is!

I don't know yet, I didn't get it until after work last night. Drake says that it shoots great, and I'm sure that it does! It's supposed to be sunny and 47 degrees tomorrow, so I'll find out then. :D

If the "Drake" of "Drake's Gun Works" is my neighbor Drake Oldham, he is indeed a fine gentleman and superb craftsman. I first met him when he was the "armorer" for our local PD, and coincidentally we took the a Larry Vickers course together.

I can highly recommend him.

Regards,

Walt

I saw the pics of this over at Hilton's forum. Outstanding work by Drake Oldham. The blending on the McCormick grip safety is so smooth it almost looks like one seamless piece on the frame.

Is Ned making 1911 parts now? I have seen his AR tools, but never saw that plunger tube until you posted it.

So do you get to carry this one on duty, or is it just for fun?

Yeah, Drake did a wonderful job on the grip safety! Ned is making the extra stout plunger tubes, they are available through Brownells. As far as the pistol, it is my duty plain clothes and off duty pistol.

The recoil spring plug is a nice touch...where can I get one :) ?

Very nice looking pistol! I have a few questions for you if you don't mind.

1. How's it shoot?
2. A sort of stupid question: does inside of the barrel get melonite treated?
3. What kind of vertical engagement do you get (and is the firing pin strike centered)?

I ask the last one because I've fitted a couple Karts (one EZ and one NM) to Kimbers, and they either had a great vertical lug engagement and a low firing pin strike, or just adequate lug engagement with centered pin strikes. Thanks and enjoy your pistol!

tophatjones,

Sorry that it took me so long to get back with you, but I just had a range day recently and the Warrior shoots GREAT!. A matter of fact, it shoots a lot better than I'll ever be able to shoot it. I ran 200 more rounds through it, mostly HP's and it ran perfect! I had some old lead semi-wadcutters that I had left over from years ago that were pretty nasty from my basement. I fugured if it would feed them, it would feed anything. It fed them without a problem.

As far as the primer hits, I checked and they were pretty well centered. I can't say that they are perfectly centered, but really close.

I spoke to Drake about the Melonite finish and he said that the inside of the barrel is finished in Melonite.

Can you still afford ammo for it? :D

I wish I still had some "disposal income" so I could get one done like that too.

Beautiful craftsmanship. Outstanding.

You know, you say that jokingly, but that is about the realitly anymore, no, I can barely afford to shoot any of my firearms like I use to. One income with two kids, a mortgage, high ammo prices and an economy in the crapper! My shooting is very limited. :(

Thanks for the reply! From what it sounds, you've got a great gun there! It's interesting that the Melonite is done to the inside of the barrel. I wonder if it'll just wear with time and ammo, or if it's supposed to stay. I may have try it sometime.
