Hey guys,
I have a New Sig, and I recently discovered this new problem while playing with it in the office. It doesn't do it every time, but sometimes the hammer drops to the half cock position when I press the slide release and it slams shut. It seems to do it a few times in a row, then it will function fine. I can't find a pattern, or make it repeat this myself.

Here is what I've done to the gun that may shed some light on the problem.

I put in a larger saftey by Ed Brown. I did a little fitting to it to make it work right. I belive that it does function correctly.
I'm fairly confident that I put the leaf spring back in correctly, but I have a feeling this may be a source of the problem.
Any ideas?

Well, first thing, since you say it only happens "sometimes", when you release the slide, is your finger well clear of the trigger? No chance of your finger hitting or bumping the trigger during the slam into battery?

What Tom said. Then I would double check that sear spring and get back with us.

No way finger was on trigger. I'll re check the leaf spring.

Is there any chance a the new safety could be the culprit?

If something worked before a change but now doesn't, yeah, I'm always quick to blame the failure on whatever changed. But I wanted to eliminate the possibility of bumping the trigger first before asking you to start disassembling your pistol again.

Can you reinstall the old parts and see if the problem goes away?

Gmonkey , what your Sig 1911 is experiencing is trigger bounce. If you drop the slide while holding the trigger back the hammer will hold, if this is the case the tension of the center leaf of the sear spring should be increased. Dropping the slide on an empty chamber should be held to a minimum as the drop is harder than if it were chambering a round.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll tweek the middle leaf a tad and try it. I need to go shooting instead of just playing with it at work.
