View Full Version : Bobbed grip safety and hammer?

I still get chewed up by the top of the grip safety; the webbing of my hand bleeds early on in each match, even after rounding the contour a bit. I know a beavertail would be one way to solve the problem but Boopsie has a nice retro look and if I can keep that I'd prefer it.
So can I just remove the rear protrusion of the grip safety, the part that rolls into my bleeding hand? It'd probably require bobbing the hammer a bit as well, to make sure I didn't trade one problem for another.
Thoughts?

If you just gotta have that retro look then you just gotta think of the blood as being part of it. But...
...are you aware there a some BTGS's which do not require alteration of the receiver tang?

Yeah, BTs are fine for most things and I may head that way. Just trying to be different, I guess.

Well, since I preferred the commander (burr) hammer to the standard (spur) hammer, I replaced the orig with commander parts. Worked just great. The blood usually comes from the hammer bite. This was back in 1968.

I have read, but niemi24s would know; that the "bite is actually often caused by the bottom corners (edges) of the tang, and that lightly breaking those edges makes it much more comfortable to shoot.

Bobtailed Boopsie on the left, with some of my lifeblood still on the hammer. Maggie on the right, for comparison.
