First I just want to say how much I enjoy reading the forum and seeing all the fine examples of American history that your members are kind enough to share with the rest of us! I recently received my first 1911 from my dad. Since joining your forum and doing alot of reading I believe it to be a M1911A1 manufactured in 1943, but am not 100% sure. It has "model of 1911 US Army" on the slide, but doesn't have the "property of United States", nor M1911A1 on the frame like I've seen in most pictures. The SN reads: No 926307. I also have a couple other questions. I'm not sure if the barrel is correct. It is stamped "colt .45 Auto" on the barrel hood, which I haven't noticed from pics I've seen. MY last qustion is on the front strap below the trigger guard are several hundred tiny divits that obviously aren't from the factory. (Sorry haven't got any pics yet) Looks like it was done with a small awl or pointy punch. Has anyone come across this being done before? Does it ruin the value of the gun?,(not that I ever plan on parting with it!) Thanks in advance for any help you can give me and for any verifaction on the year it was built!

Welcome to the forum. The serial number of your pistol is that of a 1943 Colt or 1943 Remington Rand.

If you have a G.H.D. stamped on the left side, the frame is Colt. If you have an F.J.A., then it's Remington Rand.

However, your slide is not correct for either 1943 pistol. Based on your description of the stippled front strap and the USP marking being removed, it sounds like you either have a highly modified pistol, or perhaps even an aftermarket frame with a military slide.

Photos and more info is necessary to offer more info. The barrel is not original for a 1943 pistol. It sounds post-WWII, but the photos will tell us what you have.

Thanks Scott for your quick response! The frame has the F.J.A stamp on the left side. So I probably have a Remington Rand frame with a colt slide. where can I read more about R R, I've read your post on the differences between M1911 and M1911A1 and it touches on the R R, but I really don't Know to much about them. I'm going to borrow a better digital camera and try to get some pics posted tomorrow. Thanks again
