So it doesnt really effect accuracy or anything but I wld like to get the scratches thinned out or removed completely.can anyone suggest a proper way of doing this so I dont make it worse or should I just by a new barrel? there's over 6,000 rnds on this barrel and its nowhere near worn out I just want the scratches gone. I dont know exactly when they showed up but it seems like It was within the first 500 rnds. here's a few photo's of what I'm talking about.

I think those are just little skid marks from the slide lugs when the slide cycles back.
If that's SS a kiss or two on a buffing wheel will take them right out and it'll look good until the next time you shoot it. Actually it will buff out if it's carbon steel too. I think they all do that to some extent. There might be a rough spot in the slide that you could massage a bit. A felt Dremel polishing pad would probably do the trick either way.

I agree, a few hits with a fine grit emery cloth, followed by some flitz polish should take those right out.

After you get the barrel and inside of slide smoothed up, you might want to examine the barrel bed in the frame and the bottom of the barrel behind its lugs for burrs or lumps.
Irregularities there can prevent the barrel from linking down as far as it should, resulting in your scrape marks.
And after all your smoothing work, don't be surprised if it gets scuffed up again. There's nothing but gravity to keep the barrel on the bed after linkdown. With all the firing & recoil gyrations the barrel will probably bounce up & down between the bed and slide - resulting in more scuffing.
If the scuffing really bothers you, well.....don't shoot the gun! :D

Some 1000-grit or lighter sandpaper would be just fine. It's merely cosmetic and won't hurt anything.

Yeah nahh it's not that serious of a problem lol not shooting any gun you own unless unsafe to is a travesty.I could get a Colt fully engraved and all the works and I'd still carry/shoot it. I don't believe in safe queens.
thanks for all the responses
Ill check out the slide and grab up a felt wheel or very fine grit emery cloth. it the scratches come back ohh well as I said in my original post its just cosmetic
