I have a Charles Daly Commander frame that I would like to use to build a Govt. legnth 9mm on. The dust cover is 1/4 inch short. Can this be legnthened to Govt. legnth?
I ask because trying to find a reasonably priced frame that won't take 6-8 weeks is very difficult in my area (Vermont), and this C/D frame is in hand. I've already spoken to Essex and Caspian as they are just upstate from me.
Might be a stupid question, but might as well ask...

Thanks,

The Capt.

Well it's kind of going up hill as not only is the dust cover short the frame abutment surface that the guide rod bears against is moved back about .100", so a 5" Govt. barrel won't work without grinding the lower lug back. In 6-8 weeks things will look a lot better.

Give Caspian a call after the Shot Show they might have some Foster frame ready to ship.

What you're thinking or planning is to add metal to your existing CD commander frame by welding the 1/4 " steel. I suggest you convert your CD commander frame to a 9mm commander. Or get a full size frame for your project. Your plan IMO is not a good idea. I don't think it's cost effective.
