I am putting a Cylinder and Slide forged Slide Stop install in my Colt XSE.

Like an idiot, I rammed a few fully loaded 8 round power mags into my gun with the slide closed and I think I chipped the bottom off of my slide release because it suddenly stopped locking back on the last shot. I dropped in the stop from my other Colt and it fixed the problem. I examined the old stop and it looked chipped on the bottom of the part of the stop that is inside the mag well.

Anyway, the C&S unit looked nice so I ordered it. I was a bit snug but it fit. I cycled Snap caps through it about 50 times and it feels pretty normal. I will test fire it on Friday. Is there anything else to do? I didn't see a dimple or anything like that?

Am I doing anything wrong? This seems too easy.

Ummm, I may be wrong here, but how hard did you "ram" them in. I have put fully loaded mags in for a VERY long time and have not had a slide stop break. I would say that there may be some wear since your other stop fixed the problem.

There may be some minor fitting involved but it is usually prety obvious what needs to be adjusted. I had slightly polish one of my up because it was sticky. take your time and you'll do fine.

Yeah, I'm kinda with doc here. That would sorta preclude the axiom to "Reload when you can, not when you have to." if it was harmful to load on a closed slide. Stuff happens, maybe it was just that SS pin's time.

I think you are right, it was the pin's "time."

Nothing further to do if it functions OK. If it exhibits premature slide locks; just stone the part of the SS inner lug that has copper residue on it (a little at a time), until the problem quits.

Works great. Fired 100 rounds of extremely lightweight reload 230 grain. 50 rounds of standard weight. 30+ rounds of 230 grain hp and 10 rounds of Gold dot. All ran perfectly. I will shoot a little more on Monday and declare it GTG.

Sounds good to go to me!

Good job.

One neat aside. That ammo is so light that it actually won't function is my buddy Scott's FN 45 or my Buddy Shane's HK45. It will work in my HK45, but it is WELL broken in. It is nice to see old-slabsides running on ammo that chokes the latest and greatest!

Actually, my Kimbers are better than, not "just as good as" any Colt I've ever owned.
