Hello i have been looking around and asking questions about which 1911 i should get and i think i have narrowed it do to a colt. Now my question is which model colt should i get. Should i get a 70 series one, a 80 series one or a xse one? I was thinking of getting a series 80 colt but im not 100 percent sure yet.
A colt is more money anyway u look at it but its worth it. I am looking at a government model in 45. acp blued.

What features do you want?
In .45ACP, I would say go with the Series 70 reproduction, because I do have a weak spot for the traditional.
In reality, any of them will be a fine pistol.

I was thinking of getting a series 80 colt Ahhhhh......Ok........that covers about 95% of new Colts?
Series 80 is not a product name, it indicates firing pin safety parts are used.

BTW,
If you like the XSE features and can deal with two tone and a single sided safety take a look at the Combat Elite O8011XSE.

K thx i guess i should have said 1991 instead of the 80 series. I dont mind single safeties i actually prefer them over the ambi-safety. I would prefer it just being one tone than two. Also i would rather get the 70 series than the ww1 repo that they have. Some places have those up for as their series 70 colt's but aren't they just have the series 70 internals. Either series i wouldn't mind owing

In that case I would definitely go for the Series 70.
The WW1 (O1911 or O1918) is also a 70 series (no firing pin safety I mean) but has the markings and features of a WW1 production piece. They are also VERY nice, but the small sights, while not as bad as one might expect, are less than ideal for a shooter.
The Series 70 (O1970CS) and 1991 (O1991) are very similar in features save the series 80 safety, but I think you get a bit nicer finish and better looking rollmarkings for not a huge amount more money. Honestly although some vehemently oppose the series 80 stuff, it doesn't bother me.

Sir,
FYI the series 70 may have the following problems:
Dust cover rubbing (slide not centered on frame at the front)
Recoil spring plug hole not centered
Frame/slide overlap at the rear
Flats of slide uneven heights on each side
Slide or frame scallops different sizes each side
Rollmarks crooked or not stamped evenly
Hammer leaning to one side
Loose front or rear side blade
Loose or bent plunger tube
Excessive play in the slide and frame
Casting defects in the grip safety
Try to find one you can inspect before buying; easier said than done. I bought a new series 70 last week and shipped it to Colt the same day I bought it for repair.
Good Luck,
Mark
