Well, the WW1 is blued, and looks like an M1911 -- wood, double diamond grips, "long" trigger, and no relief ("scallop") cuts behind the trigger would be the most obvious clues. The mainspring housing will be straight, and have a smooth finish.
The WW2 is Parkerized, has brown plastic grips with no diamonds around the screw locations, a short trigger, and it has the relief cuts behind the trigger. $999 is the list price for the WW1 replicas, and they are usually not discounted because they are in demand. That was also the price for a WW2 when they were being produced, but they were discontinued several years ago and it's rare to see a WW2 replica selling for less than $1200 or $1300 these days. The mainspring housing is arched.
