So I took the plunge and bought my first Colt today at the Reno Gun Show. It's a 70 Series, made in 1972, with only a few hundred rounds through it. Field stripped it at home and it's as good as the vendor promised.

Pictures will be posted soon but first I have a question.

When I got it back home I switched out the original grips with newer ones, and when I was taking the old grips out the left-hand top bushing screw came out with the screw??? It also won't go back in the frame???

How can I get the bushing screw back in the frame? Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

Very nice.
The stock screw bushing should thread back into the receiver.
You could add a drop of red Loctite to the threads of the bushing to secure it in place.

and what do I do if the bushing will not thread back in?

Buy a new bushing once you are certain that the threads on the bushing are the offending culprit.

Well luckily the guy I bought it from is a gunsmith, so I'm confident we'll figure it out and maybe get a new bushing.

Guess I have no choice but to go back to the gunshow this morning :D Oh the humanity...
