I just bought these cocobolo grips for my XSE-Lightweight Commander because I liked the medallions and the wood color is close to the original rosewood grips.

Question: Are grips with the Colt medallion (metal inserts) original equipment for any Colt 1911 pistols?

I have seen these style grips as a Colt accessory but don't know if they were ever original.

I see you took my advice :p . They look great. Lots of factory colts came with medallions. Officers w/ wrap around grips-70&80 series with walnut, Gold Cups, lots of 'em

Thank you.

I know about the Pachmayr/Colts and other rubber grips but didn't know if the wood ones were original or not....thanks

I always like medallion grips on my Colts. Colt really dropped madallion grips only in the last few years, after using them on just about everything since the '70s. Although almost all the older guns I see have fully-checkered grips with gold medallions, 1970s Colt catalogs show only the Gold Cup with those grips, and Government Models and Commanders with smooth grips and silver medallions. Middle-production Series 80 guns had the medallions in rubber grips, then the medallions were mostly dropped at the end of the '90s.
